Dear friends,
The children's festival JOY OF EUROPE
is a traditional event celebrating peace, friendship, freedom, games
and joy of children, organized annually in Belgrade ever since 1969, on
the occasion of the World Children's Day. This event offers the
children involved the opportunity to get to know each other, to
establish friendships they keep alive for years growing up to become
better people.
Belgrade is a perfect place for such
encounters of the young ones. The open gate of the Belgrade coat of
arms is probably the best symbol of the openness and hospitality this
city grants to all people of good will and noble intentions. Our young
quests from all over Europe are traditionally accommodated in the homes
of their little hosts in Belgrade.
The multiform program of the event is
endorsed and implemented by a series of community subjects: Belgrade
elementary schools, teachers and parents, as well as state authorities,
the media, numerous public and private organizations and companies.
We have great honor to hereby invite
you to take part in this grand children's festival, which is to take
place in Belgrade, in the period October 1-6, 2008
Each participating country is
represented by a group of no more than 25 children (age 7-14) and 3-5
accompanying adults. The children shall be accommodated in families of
children - hosts, from a particular school. The accompanying adults
will be accommodated in a hotel.
Travel expenses are to be covered by
the groups, whilst the accommodation expenses during the festival are
covered by the organizer.
Since we are determined to help the
children to get acquainted through the cultural activities they are
involved in, we suggest that the group of children representing your
country this year should prepare a 15-20-minute program, which can be
performed publicly. The programs can include classical, modern of folk
dances adapted for children's performance, a children's choir or
orchestra, a group of singers or solo musicians, or some other form of
children's performance art present in your country that would duly
represent the children of your country.
We would also appreciate if the
participating groups could bring along films, CDs or video clips.
This material will also be presented
adequately to the public.
Like every year, the best acts of
segments of your group performance will be selected for the European
Children Gala Concert broadcast live by the National Television
involving all the children that took part in the festival.
We firmly believe that by working
together in peace and friendship we can step into the third millennium
that would hopefully be a better and a more humane one.
The children of Belgrade are very
excited and eager to greet their quests. Anticipating your visit this
autumn, we offer you on their behalf our most heartfelt regards.
